Submay: Champ-de-Mars

This stop. Champ-de-Mars Station, Montreal.

Champ-de-Mars was opened in 1966 as part of the very first line on the Montreal Metro. It has one of the most striking artworks on the metro, a set of stained glass windows by the Quebec artist Marcelle Ferron.

Ferron was a member of an art movement known as Les Automatistes, group of Quebec artists influenced by the theory of automatism. Her windows are the first example of "Automatist" art on the Montreal metro. Class dismissed.
