Submay: Metro Center

This is Metro Center Station, Washington D.C..

Metro Center is one of the five "founding father" stations on the Washington Metrorail. It began service on March 27th, 1976 when the metro system was officially opened. It is a major transfer hub with three lines and is the second busiest station on the metro.

Much like the metro in Bilbao, the Metrorail was designed early on by just one architect. Harry Weese was a prominent architect from Chicago and one the main practitioners of twentieth century modern urban architecture.

Relying on the same materials he turned the metro into a series of stations with a striking signature look. Metro Center is probably the most shining example.
