Submay: Cristobal Colon

This stop. Cristobal Colon Station, Santiago.

Augusto Pinochet brought a lot of grief, terror and general unpleasantness to Chile. But he also gave her capital city a very modern public transport system, the Metro de Santiago. So not a bad guy, really. He officially opened it in 1975 and it has since grown to become, rather surprisingly, the most extensive to date in South America.

Cristobal Colon is part of the latest series of lines and stations. It was opened in 2005. And for those who don't know, Cristobal Colon is Spanish for Christopher Columbus.
