Submay: Monk

Next stop. Monk Station, Montreal.

Monk was opened in 1978, about twelve years after the Montreal Metro began.

Like many of the more interesting subway systems around the world, Montreal features public works of art in all its stations. Monk has some of the more interesting ones by the artist Germain Bergeron, who coincidentally was actually a monk early on in his life.

Bergeron considered many different ideas for the station. His first concept was to create a series of movable flying saucers to be suspended from the roof of the station. However, this was deemed too dangerous by authorities, and the idea was scraped. Bloody clients.
