Subway: Park Pobedy

This stop. Park Pobedy Station, Moscow.

Park Pobedy, or "Victory Park" was one of the first post-communist stations to be built on the Moscow Metro. It was officially opened in 2003 and is part of the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya Line.

At 84 meters underground, it is claimed to be the deepest station in the world. It also has the world's longest escalators. A ride takes about three minutes without walking.

Not surprisingly, the artwork in the station celebrates Russian achievement rather than communist glory which was typical of the stations built under Stalin. That said, the communists may be gone, but their grand aesthetic clearly lives on.
